". . . a brush with nature"

I think my paintings are generally stronger if I follow the idea of odd numbers versus even as I compose them. And I often carry that even one step further still by creating a series of paintings. Another benefit of that is that by painting my subject three times in the same format, style and size, then framing each piece with the same molding, each work can now hang individually or together with great success.

 This time I chose foxes because I love the color of their fur and the way that color “pops” against the background of the snow. I also wanted to depict three distinct, yet familiar, positions we often think of as foxes travel through, or hunt in, a snowy environment. I know that foxes often remain together in small family groups  (like mates and kits, for example), so it is not impossible to consider that these three foxes are actually different members of one family. 

Perhaps, they also have the “power of three” on their side. I like to think about those possibilities when I consider these paintings.
