Dear Subscriber,
As many of you may know, I often have paintings come to me in my dreams. This is one of those pieces. The night this painting came to me it was the first is a series of three “not so still life” ideas that appeared in quick succession. All were rather unique still life works, to be created in a realistic style, but with an unusual and, hopefully, unexpected twist. The following morning I could hardly wait to start bringing the first of my three ideas to life.
My husband, Al, and I immediately went on a quest to find the perfect wedge of cheese and a bottle of wine that was also the perfect color from my dream. Many cheeses and bottles of vino auditioned for the parts, but eventually we narrowed it down to this consummate pairing. Upon arriving back to the studio I set about staging our purchases, along with the other items we already had, to complete my still life composition. A mouse actor was not available (fortunately), so a small stand-in was recruited to fill in for one. However, it was a rather “stiff performance” that I would need to correct later when painting the small creatures from my imagination. My husband/photographer did an excellent job documenting the scene for me.
